Hi,
Karnataka is a State endowed with an immense amount of natural beauty due to a major portion of the Western Ghats falling within the boundaries of this State. The Western Ghats, one of the Bio-Diversity hot spots in the world have a looming presence in all the western districts of Karnataka from Belgaum in the north to Coorg in the south. These ranges receive some of the heaviest Rainfall in the country.
Where there are Mountains with heavy rains, there are bound to be perennial Rivers and Streams. Most of the Rivers of the Western Ghats flow Westward to join the Arabian Sea with only a few major River systems flowing eastward towards the Plains of the Deccan Plateau. As such, these west flowing Rivers sometimes take great plunges over cliffs and precipices to get down to sea level in their hurry to meet their ultimate goal.
This above fact has given rise to innumerable Waterfalls in the western ghats of Karnataka. Waterfalls here are so abundant that one can be sure that every small valley that carries even a tiny little stream will eventually take a plunge over a precipice creating a beautiful waterfall. All the facts stated above have given Karnataka some of the most beautiful Waterfalls in the whole World the most famous being "Jog Falls" or "Gerusoppa".
Some of the other more prominent and noteworthy waterfalls are "Unchalli Falls", "Abbe Falls"( Abbey Falls ), "Sathodi Falls", "Dudhsagar Falls", "Hebbe Falls", "Magod Falls", "Shivaganga Falls", "Barkana Falls", "Manikyadhara Falls" and many more.
In my further posts, I will endeavor to take my readers on a journey to all the spectacular waterfalls of Karnataka's western Ghats.
